What it is

Creative Steps for Individuals funds the professional, business and organisational development of artists who have experienced barriers to careers in the arts. The fund supports career development activities such as mentorship, training courses, peer-to-peer learning, business development, networking, and website or marketing materials—but not creating new artwork or project delivery. Maximum project duration is 12 months. Applicants must contribute a non-Arts Council Wales or National Lottery source for at least 10% of costs (in-kind or cash). You can receive this funding a maximum of two times.

Individual artists and creatives in Wales who identify as ethnically and culturally diverse, D/deaf, disabled, or neurodivergent, and have demonstrable experience as an artist or creative professional or artistic potential.

Between £500 and £7,500 (plus access costs) to support professional, business and organisational development, awarded in three stages: 45% on acceptance, 45% at midway point, and 10% on completion.

  • Letters of support confirming funding from other sources (in-kind or cash)
  • Application form questions covering understanding of creative journey, why funding is needed now, and how proposal fits Arts Council Wales priorities
