The Salavisa European Dance Award (SEDA) honours the legacy of Portuguese dancer, teacher and artistic director Jorge Salavisa (1939–2020), who was artistic director of Ballet Gulbenkian between 1977 and 1996. The award recognizes talented choreographers in contemporary dance and related art movements, including new dance practices and inclusion initiatives. Created in 2023 by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the award targets artists with artistic maturity who are still little known on the European circuit due to their artistic discourse or social and cultural background.
Choreographers in contemporary dance or related dance practices from any country with artistic maturity who are underrepresented on the European circuit.
