What it is

This program explores essential governance issues for achieving successful, sustainable, and self-determined economic activity among Indigenous communities. It covers culturally appropriate institutions, the role of Indigenous leaders in shaping economic policy, and practical aspects of working with Indigenous communities, businesses, and entrepreneurs. The program uses case studies and best practices in Indigenous economic policy and governance, with guidance from an Elder for sharing traditional and spiritual wisdom. Topics include nation-building, asserting self-governance, building institutions, the Harvard Project on American Indian Economic Development, Indigenous economic policy, separating politics and business, community economics models, and financing Indigenous ventures.

Indigenous leaders, administrators, and service providers interested in community economic development and business planning, including those working for Indigenous communities and organizations; must be 18 years or older.
