What it is

A fully funded residency for artists to collaborate with scientists from the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences on environmental challenges including climate change, sustainable agriculture, geoengineering, and water management. Applicants propose spatial artworks involving microorganism research in soil and water ecosystems, with mandatory community engagement components. Work culminates in public presentation at Ars Biologica Festival spring 2028.

Who it is for

Artists, designers, and creative collectives with more than 5 years of professional practice and prior experience in interdisciplinary collaborations, art and science work, and community engagement, who are 18 or older and eligible to work and travel in the EU.

Open to artists in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and others.

What you get

€24,000 in total funding including €6,000 artist fee, up to €15,000 production budget, up to €3,000 for travel and accommodation, 16-month residency from January 2027 to April 2028 with stays in České Budějovice and at Ars Electronica, collaboration with leading scientists, project support, international exhibition at Ars Biologica Festival 2028, and video and photo documentation.
