What it is

A scholarship from Magnum Photos and Face à la Mer for a photographer from North Africa to join Magnum Learn Lab for Storytellers, a ten-month mentorship program supporting emerging photographers in documentary storytelling with guidance from Magnum photographers Newsha Tavakolian, Antoine d'Agata and Rafał Milach, artist Tania Bohórquez and designer Ania Nalecka-Milach. Selection takes place through interview at the Tangier Photography Encounters in November 2026.

Who it is for

Photographers aged 18 and over living in North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Sudan) who are emerging documentarians interested in developing their storytelling practice.

Open to artists in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and others.

What you get

Full scholarship covering the $17,450 course fee, VISA, travel and accommodation for a ten-month international mentorship program with residencies in Italy, France and online, plus in-person selection interviews at the Tangier Photography Encounters in November 2026; the participant must self-fund expenses during the third workshop in Paris in November 2027.
