What it is

Application for independent venues to participate in the National Arts Festival Fringe 2027. Applicants must own or manage a venue and obtain permission from the venue owner or manager if applicable. The venue must comply with safety regulations, provide site plans, insurance documentation, health and safety policies, and other requirements outlined in the Independent Venue Agreement. Applicants may present theatre, dance, film, cabaret, music, comedy, poetry, children's theatre, visual art, magic, or other genres. Decisions will be communicated by 1 February 2027.

The opportunity to present live or digital productions at the National Arts Festival Fringe 2027 in Makhanda, subject to successful application and signing of an Independent Venue Agreement.

  • Brief description of proposed event or programme of events
  • Description or drawing of venue with venue address and outline of programme/schedule
  • Fully inclusive and preferably to scale site plan detailing structural layout, seating arrangements, exit routes, parking, emergency vehicle access, and amenities
  • Detailed contact list of individuals acting as event organisers
  • Comprehensive schedule of planned events
  • Rental agreement or letter of agreement between event organiser and venue owner for hosting Festival events
  • Copy of site population control certificate or confirmation of temporary certificate application
  • Copies of all certificates of compliance for temporary structures and electrical installations
  • Proof of appropriate public liability insurance
  • Health and Safety Policy including comprehensive risk assessment of all activities planned on site
