What it is

An interdisciplinary conference bringing together perspectives and experiences from Central and Eastern Europe, serving as a satellite event to the international exhibition Who's Afraid of Motherhood? at Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn. The conference invites contributions in multiple formats: academic papers, round-table discussions, artist talks, world-cafes, and experimental walkshops. Contributions should address one of six key themes: constructions of good motherhood; politics of care and life-making practices; maternal affects and intimacies; critical vocabularies for rethinking motherhood and kinship; new aesthetic categories in creative practices; or communities, solidarities and the commons. Individual or collective representations may focus on any historical period provided they engage with contemporary debates on motherhood.

Who it is for

Academic researchers, artists, activists and practitioners interested in presenting work on motherhood, care, politics and intimacies, with particular welcome for perspectives from Central and Eastern Europe.

Open to artists anywhere.
