21st Bucharest International Jazz Competition 2027

What it is

The 21st Bucharest International Jazz Competition is an international jazz competition held in Bucharest, Romania, from 2-10 July 2027. Solo instrumentalists and vocalists may apply, as may bands of up to 6 performing musicians including instrumentalists and vocalists. Individual musicians can also apply for the Jam Session section. The competition has three rounds: first round is selection by recorded submissions (2-3 pieces of different styles); second round is semifinals where semi-finalists perform 50-80 minutes depending on the venue (concert hall, unconventional space, or jam sessions); third round is the final and gala where finalists perform 30-40 minutes. Applicants have complete freedom in choosing repertoire. A professional sound technician, sound system, and backline (drum kit, piano, bass amplifier, guitar amplifier, microphones) are provided. Finalists receive free accommodation in the same hotels used during semifinals. Prize categories include Grand Prize Winner (€1,500), Best Band (€500), Best Vocalist (€500), Best Jam Session (€250), concert engagements, and special prizes. Who it is for

Instrumentalists and vocalists of all nationalities aged up to 45 years old (born after 1 July 1982), or bands of up to 6 performing musicians where the leader may be older than 45.

What you get

Participation in a three-round jazz competition with performances in concert hall and unconventional spaces, and jam sessions. What you need to apply

• Application form (Annex A for band, Annex B for each member)
• Audio recordings in mp3 or mp4 format of 2-3 pieces of different styles
• Two different group photos in color, landscape format, minimum 1MB each, 2 required
• Bank confirmation of payment of the €140 registration fee
• Short presentation of the group, up to 10 words
• Copy of passport or identity card for each group member
• Technical rider
