What it is

Reference distribution funding for feature, talent, children's, documentary and animation films. Applications are processed in two stages: first, reference funds are allocated; second, within three years after receiving the allocation notice, distributors can apply for payment of the reference funding for a new project.

Regular film distributors with a residence or business location in Germany who have successfully distributed a reference film.

What you get

Non-repayable grants awarded once per year in late May, to be invested in new projects. The funding amount depends on the total points achieved, number of applicants, and FFA's annual budget.

What you need to apply

  • BAFA certificate
  • Federal Archives certificate confirming deposit of a film copy
  • FSK certificate
  • Evidence of regular distribution activity or 12-month business plan
  • For talent films: signed filmographies of producers, directors and authors
  • Final visitor numbers, current distribution statement and distributor confirmation of reported visitor numbers and net revenue (box office minus VAT) in the respective reference year, or proof of festival success or award
