What it is

General project funding for contemporary non-commercial artistic projects across all disciplines - visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, architecture, and interdisciplinary work. Projects must have international context (cooperation with foreign partners, international participants, events outside Germany, international research collaboration, or prominent international institutions) and must be visible in Germany. Funding is available twice yearly with deadlines on 31 January and 31 July. Projects cannot begin before jury decision.

Established cultural organisations and groups (not individual artists) producing contemporary non-commercial artistic projects in all disciplines with international context or federal scope.

Open to artists in Germany.

What you get

Partial project funding of €50,000 minimum; applicants must secure at least 20% of total project costs from own funds or other sources.

What you need to apply

  • Completed online application form (in German language minimum)
  • Detailed project description, up to 10 words
  • Cost and financing plan (Kosten- und Finanzierungsplan) in Excel format, maximum 2 pages A4
  • Written confirmation from artistic director or comparable responsible persons
  • Written commitments from all other funders or letters of intent
  • Written confirmations from all cooperation partners including their financial participation
  • Detailed artist list with country of origin and short biography
  • Supplementary materials such as texts, images, videos, or audio files to illustrate the project (optional but encouraged)
