Kiruna 2029: Open Call for Artistic Projects and Early Ideas

What it is

Kiruna 2029 invites artistic project proposals and early-stage ideas for inclusion in its official cultural programme for the European Capital of Culture 2029. The programme explores movement, transformation, cultural heritage, and contemporary challenges through the concept Movement – Below Ground. On Earth. In Space. Located in Sápmi and the culturally diverse Tornedalen region, Kiruna is undergoing urban transformation. The programme seeks projects addressing themes such as belonging, displacement, land rights, rural exclusion, environmental relationships, and cultural memory preservation. All artistic disciplines are eligible. Projects may take place outside Kiruna if they establish clear connection to the municipality and five guiding criteria: Homemaking, European Adventure, Perspectives, Finding New Ways, and Power of Culture.

Who it is for

Artists, cultural practitioners, and organizations from any country may apply through two routes: Artistic Project for developed projects with administrative capacity, or Test an Idea for individuals and early-stage concepts.
