What it is

Self-portrait photography competition exploring the theme PLAY, including camera play, questioning the medium of photography, documenting play, developing new technology, play as sport, playing with truth or reality, the politics of play, and the significance of freedom of play. Jury selection in early December 2026, shortlist revealed mid-January 2027, winners announced February 2027.

Who it is for

Photographers submitting self-portraits exploring the theme of PLAY; full-time students under 25 may enter a separate student category.

Open to artists anywhere.

What you get

First prize €1,000, second prize €500, third prize €300, and the top 35 finalists will have their work projected at FORMAT27 festival in Derby, UK (11 March to 11 April 2027) and in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
