A four-week online residency where artists research expressions of death as culture in their own communities, including folklore, cemeteries, traditions, and social organizations. Through interactive sessions, collections research, and collaborative collage making, artists will consider the origins of death, the afterlife, grief, remembrance, and spaces between life and death. Participants will receive critical and curatorial feedback and explore how research and material choices shape their practice, with discussions addressing appropriation, copyright, and fair use. Artwork created during and after the residency will be considered for exhibitions in January 2027 at Kolaj Institute Gallery in New Orleans and October 2027 at the New Orleans Healing Center, as well as for publication in Folklore Collage Society journal.
Self-motivated artists over 21 from anywhere in the world at any career stage, particularly those working in or interested in exploring social and political collage.
Open to artists anywhere.
