Exzellenzstipendien des Vereins Übersetzerhaus Looren

What it is

Annual excellence stipends for translators working on translation projects from authors writing in Switzerland in all world languages. Three main Looren Excellence Stipends are awarded, plus one each of the Carl Holenstein, Regula Renschler, and Max Geilinger Excellence Stipends. All are worth CHF 4,000 and tied to a one-month residency. Applications in translations from original languages only (no bridge languages) are welcome. A signed publisher contract is required; a letter of intent is not sufficient. Travel costs are reimbursed. Recipients cannot hold another residency stipend in the same year.

What you get

What you need to apply

• Short biography and professional background
• Publication list
• Description of the translation project with details on specific translation challenges of the work
• Publisher contract in German, French, Italian or English (with delivery date from April 2026 onwards) and license contract (unless author rights are free)
• 10 manuscript pages of the translation (without the translator's name)
• Copy of the corresponding pages of the original text
